Garden of peace of mind
Garden of peace of mind, or anshin-garden, is called so because it was planned as an island of peace and comfort among the city.
In the garden there are islands washed by the sea. The sea is made in the technique of kare-sansui. In the center you can see the main island Horay with stones and pines. Two vertical stones, inclined to the tops of each other, mean a male and female beginning.
Onsen zone (in Japan - hot springs) is closed on all sides by a bathhouse, a fence and a tea house. Only a small passage allows you to see some parts of this place. Because of such location, as well as of the water in the onsen, Japanese maples and fergesia grow well here. There is only one high tree in this corner, it is maple mandshuricum, which almost completely hide us from the high neighbor's house. In the shady there grow frangula Asplenofolia, Athyrium niponicum and Mahonia aquifolium.
In the tea house you can sit or lie on the pillows, watching the water pouring from the bamboo of tsukubai.
Another place for relaxation is the veranda of the house, where one third of the wall is sliding doors. From here, sitting on comfortable cushions, you can admire the garden in any weather. It is especially interesting to be here in the rain looking at the rain chain, brought from Japan, wich hangs down the center. Water flow through the halves of the bamboo, then it falls on the chain and with a gurgling flowing down.
Also there is a covered bench matiai in the garden. It is made of wood and bamboo, and the roof is covered with reed mats, the same as on a tea house.
There are not much flowering plants in the garden, but still they are. Especially beautiful is the blooming of Japanese azaleas.
In summer, sedum turns yellow, covering the ground with golden carpets.
And in the fall, when all the plants are preparing for rest, the low aster unexpectedly flares up with farewell flowers.
Between the house and the fence there is a dry stream made of large sea pebble. This is the lowest place in the garden and the drainage is put in here. Therefore, often in rainy weather, the dry stream turns into "wet".
Of course, the garden is most beautiful in summer, however, in autumn and winter, like a real Japanese garden, it becomes touchingly sad, and therefore evokes even more emotions.
